A finely executed Georgian portrait miniature depicting an elegant aristocratic young lady in the grand early 18th century manner associated with the school and style of Sir Godfrey Kneller.

The sitter is shown wearing a white silk gown with a rich cobalt blue sash, her softly powdered hair swept upward in the fashionable court style of the early Georgian period. The elongated neck, pale luminous complexion, and poised direct gaze closely reflect the refined aesthetic of English court portraiture during the reigns of Queen Anne and the early Hanoverians.

The miniature appears to be painted on copper, giving the surface a beautiful depth and smoothness distinct from later paper examples. It is presented in an attractive gilt metal frame with finely worked border and suspension loop.

An especially decorative and atmospheric example, with excellent presence despite its intimate scale.

Good antique condition overall for age. Minor age-related wear and light surface rubbing consistent with careful handling over centuries. Frame with attractive age patina. Height of frame 5.2cms
